Hebrews 1 - Waiting on God's Timing

God is not silent.  He speaks through Scripture; He displays His solemn majesty through creation.  I’m reminded of that this morning as I watched the purples and pinks of the sunrise.  Any mom can tell you the same thing.  They’ve seen God’s hand in the breath of their newborn - in the perfect eyelashes of their little one.

We’re reminded in this passage to pause and reflect on the power and majesty of Jesus Christ.  Today, as we approach the celebration of the resurrection of our King, we patiently wait for God’s timing and we listen for what He is saying to us.

Jesus is to be worshiped - by God’s angels (1:6) and by His followers (Matthew 16:16).  Jesus, our God and our Saviour, laid the foundation of this earth.  With his powerful and gentle hands, He made everything.  And with those same hands pierced by nails, he suffered to cleanse us from our sins.  And today, He reigns in Heaven and powerfully sustains everything by His command (1:3).

Waiting is hard.  But we know that God has a good purpose in his timing; His justice will come.  Jesus will return.  Like Jeremiah when he was unjustly accused and imprisoned, Christians will suffer injustice (Jeremiah 37:14), but in God’s timing, we know that His justice will come.  We can trust in the Royal law of Christ - in His freedom written on our hearts.  For we are new creations - transferred from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of His dear Son (Colossians 1:13-14).  You are a child of God, called by the powerful name of Jesus Christ.

Consistent with 2 Peter 3:10, Hebrews 1:11-12 tells us that God will fold up all of this creation.  Yes, God is in no rush.  He patiently waits for more to be reconciled with Him before He returns to then bring judgment and create a new heaven and a new earth.

I want to do God’s will.  I want to know and please Jesus Christ, the great Shepherd of the sheep.  I want to be a man of God, living a life that pleases Jesus Christ.  But I know I'm a sinner needing all the help I can get.  The good news is that God not only gives us the Holy Spirit to guide us but this passage tells us that he sends his angels “to care for people who will inherit salvation” (1:14).  Now that’s a humbling thought.  Thank God for His provision and His grace.

I pray that we are strengthened and encouraged by the Holy Spirit today.  God is for us.  We all want to be with God in eternity.  We all want to do what pleases the Father.

Holy Spirit please open our ears and minds and hearts and spirits to hear you and to understand the eternal covenant ratified by the powerful blood of our Lord Jesus.  Increase our faith today.  Help us to grow in you, Lord Jesus.

We know that you are speaking to us and protecting us.  Please help us to listen.  Help us to know who you are.  Help us to better understand your character and your glory.

We do not fully understand.  Of course, we can’t.  But You want us to understand more and to grow in You.  You want us to be Holy and to reflect your character to others.  May we imitate you by sharing love and grace today.  Amen.

God is Good - Always!  Keep going, for He is with you.
