 Galatians 5:16 - The Good Life

Good morning!  This is a key verse for believers in Jesus Christ.  May we live by it.  The Bible says Christians can fall away from God’s grace if they try to make themselves right with God by keeping the law (5:1-4).

The answer for how to live the good life is this: by the Spirit of Christ.  We have to be intentional.  Daily.  God’s hand of protection is on us if we live by the Spirit.  It is God who gives power and strength to his people (Psalm 68:35).  God cares very much about how we live; He hates every kind of deception (Proverbs 8:7).  We can trust God to keep us from believing false teachings.  God is trustworthy, a solid rock.  The Holy Spirit guiding us will keep us from craving wicked things.

We are called to live in freedom.  The new covenant of Jesus Christ is better and simpler.  It says to stop sinning.  Stop biting and devouring one another.  It says to use your freedom to serve one another in love.

The Holy Spirit, God, will guide us to love our neighbors.  This is a daily fight between my sinful nature and what the Holy Spirit wants.   But don't be deceived, God is not tempting us.  And He won't force us to follow Him.  We have a responsibility to man up and stay free.  Follow the Spirit of Christ and you will follow through to carry out God’s good plan for you and His will.  Then, excitingly, God will produce amazing results in our lives.

Let us live the good life today, following the Holy Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.

Lord God, please guide and direct me to love you more and to serve others today.  Amen.

 Hebrews 6 - Faith and Endurance These next two chapters of Hebrews are incredibly encouraging for the Christian.  God gives us confidence and courage to do what we must.  When the whistle blows, be ready to go.  God in Heaven is developing your character; He’s preparing you to fight His battles.           We are responsible to grow.  We know that God repays people for the wrong they have done (Jeremiah 50:24).  And that God uses whomsoever He chooses as His instruments of justice (Jeremiah 50:20).  “For the LORD is a God who gives just punishment; he always repays in full” (Jeremiah 50:56). Thinking of God’s character is sobering, and good.  We know Jesus is the King, the LORD of Heaven’s Armies.  In the next few chapters, we hear the truth about who Jesus is and our responsibilities to Him.  Hebrews 2:1-5 - Signs and Wonders - Miracles and Gifts I can shock myself at my inability to learn simple lessons.  They say just showing up is 90% of success.  Well, I’m confident inattentiveness, waffling, and ambivalence are keys to failure. In this passage, we hear yet again a warning to “listen very carefully” to God’s message or we run a real risk of total failure - drifting away from God (2:1).  With responsibility comes consequences.  Just ask any sentry, goaltender, place-kicker, or pilot.  You have a job to do - if you don’t do it well the results are clear.  So, let’s do it well.
