Romans 3 - Sinners Saved by God’s Grace

This is a Good News message from God for every man and woman - for all time. It explains righteousness. It describes how terrible sinners, people like me who are unfaithful to God - all people - can be made right with God.

No matter who you are, you are made right with God by placing your faith in Jesus Christ. All of the law is fulfilled in God’s Son, Jesus Christ.

We must believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. If we believe that and place our faith in Jesus Christ, God declares that we are righteous; he frees us from the penalty of our sin.

God is fair and just. It is His sacrifice alone that provides salvation. God shows his righteousness, goodness, fairness, and kindness in this.

Our acquittal is based on faith in what Jesus Christ did for each of us on the cross; it is based on what God has done, not based on us fulfilling the law. Only when we have faith do we truly fulfill the law.

The law shows us how sinful we are. Each of us is a sinner. No one can be made right with God by doing what the law commands.

God emphasizes faith to demonstrate his righteousness.

Lord God in Heaven, we believe in Jesus - we know he shed his blood and life on the cross. He sacrificed his life to pay the penalty for our sins. God, you are so Good. You are so patient and kind.

We know you entrusted your oracles to the Jews and gave them a special role in fulfilling your Gift of Life. And we know a Jew is no better than any other person (3:9), for we know each person is under the power of sin until freed by Jesus Christ. And we are declared righteous. We are freed from the penalty of our sin and the power of sin when we place our faith, trust, and lives in the hands of Jesus Christ.

Thank you, Almighty God, for your forgiveness. May your Good News break down stubborn and prideful hearts today (like mine). May your kindness overwhelm men and women with repentance and thankfulness. Amen.
