Romans 1:24-32 - Make Good Trades

Our Daughter, Meghan Grace

Politicians and others often wax on about the “right side of history.”  Well, that’s true that there is a right side.  We see that throughout Scripture.  Proverbs 3:35 says, “The wise inherit honor, but fools are put to shame.”  Psalm 33:22 says, “Let your unfailing love surround us, LORD, for our hope is in you alone.”  And Proverbs 3:7 says, “Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom.  Instead, fear the LORD and turn away from evil.”  There is wisdom and folly, heaven and hell.  Men are doing God’s bidding.  And Satan sadly has many evangelists.  There is an eternal judgment day.  And there is a Judge who determines what is right.  His name is Jesus Christ.

“Oh, foolishness,” says those that have traded the truth about God for a lie.  They claim evolution will be the judge; science will govern, horoscopes know all, Hollywood sets moral standards, and the victor earns the spoils.  We shall see.

Our God is good and kind.  He loves us beyond all measure.  God’s kindness is intended to turn us from our sins to repentance.

But first, we must acknowledge our sins.

Our hearts have desired all sorts of shameful, vile, degrading things.

We traded the truth about God for a deceptive and pernicious lie - that it is ok to worship created things like sex, wealth, and status rather than the One who made them.  Do not worship created things.  Don’t associate with those who do.

We’ve worshipped and served people and money and power and sex.  We’ve mocked the righteous as foolish when we were the foolish ones.

And our lives were full of every kind of wickedness: sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, quarreling, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip.

We were backstabbers, haters of God, insolent, proud, and boastful.

We invented new ways of sinning and disobeyed our parents.

Almighty God, I’m sorry for my stubbornness, broken promises, heartlessness, and lack of mercy.  I know you are the Judge.  Forgive me, Father.  Forgive me, Jesus.  Forgive me, Holy Spirit.

Amen.
