Acts 3:1

Notice here that Peter and John were together. That’s a mark of the Jesus way, together. We don’t see lone wolf preaching sensations, televangelists, or missionaries. Jesus sent out in teams of two. At least two. This teamwork principle was drilled into his men during his ministry. So often now we are alone in our work. This modern-day practice must stop. Man was not made to live, work, or minister alone. We are part of a body – and we must act like it. That means going together, serving, leading, celebrating, mourning, and following Jesus together. We are each unique. And we have special roles and functions. But when you see a one-man band playing, no matter how he looks or sounds, know that God’s alarm bells are ringing and dysfunction is close at hand.

Notice, too, that Peter and John were attending an afternoon prayer service. When was the last time we did that with our brothers in Christ?

To unlock the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives and ministries, be found in the habit of prayer. Pray alone, solitary and sincere; as Jesus commands, have no pretense and showy stuff. Just you and the Almighty. Speak as a friend, but never forget who you are speaking with. And find your Christian friends for daily prayer together. The Advocate will also be with us – and as Jesus promised, we can move mountains with the Advocate. With God, in the name of the Creator, miracles are reality. Lives are changed. Eternities changed. A lame beggar becomes a healed, famous follower of Christ.

God blessed his disciples. And He adds to his people in miraculous ways. All power, all life, comes from the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The only God. Peter testifies here (v. 15) that Jesus is the author of life. That’s right, Jesus is the holy, righteous one, God. The point of this miracle is to turn the people to Jesus. That is always the case. Peter is teaching and witnessing here. He’s explaining that the man was healed through faith in the name of Jesus (v. 16). The miracle was to help the Jews understand who Jesus is and what God did through Jesus. There is no other way to be saved but through the Messiah, Jesus Christ, our God, and our Savior.

The church today must make it as clear and plain as Peter did – people must repent of their sins and turn to God so their sins may be wiped away.

Then times of refreshment will come from the presence of the Lord – that’s the Holy Spirit in our lives.

Then note this: and He will again send Jesus the Messiah. There will be a Day of final restoration – Lord God, your powerful Day.

Moses warned the Jews to listen carefully to everything Jesus says (Deut. 18:15). Any man or woman who does not listen to Jesus will be completely cut off from God’s people.

Make no mistake: God’s people are only those with faith in the servant of God, the faithful and holy Messiah, Jesus Christ. He came first to the people of Israel to bless them and turn each away from sinful ways. Each man must decide in his heart. To listen and trust the Prophet, Jesus Christ, or to not listen to the King of Kings. It is the responsibility of every person.

Lord, please give all people ears to hear. May many millions and billions turn to you today and away from their sinful ways. Thank you for your Word, God. Please help us to follow your ways. And to do you proud today. Amen.
