1 John 4:4 - The Path of Victory

You belong to God.  Yes, we may very well be as stubborn as mules, but we can overcome the force of our sinful nature and follow a greater Force.

Each of us has the responsibility to go our way until the end.  God will not force you down a path.  But He will show you the way and He goes to great pains to get you and keep you on His path.  As children of God, we follow the Holy Spirit and join and unite with God’s family to live, love, and work as we patiently wait on Jesus.

God tells us, just as He did the ancient prophet Daniel that when we die we will rest, and then at the end of the days, we will rise again to receive the inheritance set aside for us (Daniel 12:13).  We will rest from our hard work, but our good deeds in Christ will follow us into God’s promised inheritance (Revelation 14:13).

We struggle and face many difficulties.  We can feel trapped in a dead-end job, surrounded by wickedness and greed.  We face failing health.  And many of us have experienced broken relationships.  But God is greater.  The Holy Spirit alive in us this morning is greater than the spirit who lives in the world (1 John 4:4).

We belong to God.  We are His kids.  God loves us and promises us character-building, discipline, goodness, love, loving fellowship, and eternal inheritance.  God promises victory in King Jesus Christ.

Dear King Jesus, please calm us and increase our ability to hear.  Open and soften our hearts today and transform the way we think.  Help us to use the spiritual weapons you provide, forgiveness, love, trust in You, and kindness.  Help us to be godly in every way.  Shrewd, innocent, and wise - all in a way that transcends human understanding.  Help those of us who understand hockey more than chess to learn and patiently grow.  May we listen and obey you.  And may we show a good example for all we encounter so that together we may grow in You, the Spirit of truth.  Amen.
