2 Corinthians 1:1-12 - Get Back on Track

Happy 4th!

Men, all praise is due to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.  It is God who loves us, forgives us, and is merciful to us.  He is the Source of our comfort, even when we are weighed down with suffering and troubles.  God showers us with His comfort through Christ (1:5).  And we shall comfort each other as believers in Christ Jesus.

Men, let’s face it, we need God’s help to be holy.  We just can’t do it on our own.  Where do we get our comfort, approval, and approbation?  People disappoint and fail.  But God does not.  Let’s be content in Him, and fear Him for God is holy and just.

Troubles, being crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, bring us closer to God.  It is to our great benefit when we stop relying on ourselves (or others!) and learn to rely on God Almighty.  He alone has all power and might.  God alone is Sovereign.  He’s so sovereign that he truly gives us free will and holds us accountable for our choices.

I know that God has rescued me so many times.  I suspect you too know that He’s done the same for you.

Father God, we humbly come to you, cap in hand, and ashamed for how slow we are to fully and obediently follow you.  We rely on you.  We place our confidence in you for we know you are our Rescuer through Christ Jesus, our King.  Lord God, please teach us to pray.  For we know you graciously answer the many prayers of our brothers and sisters who ask you to help us.  We need that help.  Dear Jesus, please guide my thoughts and words today.  Help me to remain silent where need be.  May I be wise and holy and sincere in all my dealings.  Amen.
