Romans 4 - Your Sins Are Forgiven

Archer (my two-year-old grandson)

“Your sins are forgiven - go and sin no more.”  I need to hear that this morning. I trust God. And I want to be in right relationship with him. I trust you do as well.

We see in Romans 4 God promised to give the whole earth to Abraham and his descendants (4:13). That promise is based on faith - not earned by deeds. Righteousness, Self-Control, and Judgement - are themes of God’s love letter to us. This section of the letter touches on all three themes, focusing on the first: God’s promise of being declared by God to be right in His sight. This is of eternal benefit to Abraham: his disobedience is forgiven, his sins are put out of sight, and his record is cleared of sin. Thank God! You and I have the same offer of forgiveness for our eternal benefit.

Abraham is the example, the founder and spiritual father of the Jewish nation and all who have the same faith in God that Abraham had before he was circumcised. (We should pay far more honor to Abraham than many of our so-called contemporary leaders.)

Let us be friends of God today, men and women of faith. Let us trust that God keeps his promises, brings the dead back to life, blesses families, and creates new good things out of broken, impossible situations. What happiness for those who are called friends of God. That is our pursuit of happiness, to be friends with God.

You know this, but let’s recap. Every person is offered a free gift of right standing with God, forgiveness, and a cleared-off record. The Father provides it to us as a free Gift. Indeed, no strings attached. Take it, or leave it. But be sober. If you take it, your life will change - forever. Believe in God, who raised Jesus, our Lord and Savior, from the dead. Jesus was handed over to die because of your sins and mine, and he was raised to new life to make us right with God.

Lord God, I believe in You, and I trust your promise. Amen.
